Originating from China between 1960, this antique traditional Peking rug is one of a select design featuring rich, repeated character symbols in its middle border. Hand knotted in high quality silk with subtle, luminous texture, the cream pink background is a lesser-known colourway among this antique family, complemented by the more vibrant series of turn of the century reminiscent floral and infinite knot symbols throughout the open field in pastel green, yellow, pink, blue, brown, and red variations. Framed by a royal blue meandering border (often representing running water or symbols of truth), the middlemost border portrays finely woven red army, horse, wagon, and priest characters complemented by sharply drawn bow and arrow, scimitar, and kneeling representations; wrapped by a royal blue guard border with uncommon gold fringes.
