This collection of 70 vintage matchbooks (circa 1950s through the 1980s) from iconic New York hotels, clubs, restaurants and night clubs is in excellent condition. Some have phone numbers with telephone exchanges that pre-date area codes — like La Bourgogne East at UNI-4489. A truly mid-century collection! A good number of the restaurants and night clubs in this collection are now shuttered, like The Red Parrot and Regine’s. The once legendary Hotel Dorset was demolished to make way for MoMA’s expansion, but a few matchbooks survived!
A comparable set of matchbooks for European hotels, restaurants, and clubs is also available upon inquiry. This set would be priced the same.
