Fascinating pair of Japanese wooden crates or cages made in a Tansu style with iron strapping. The square crates have a house shaped roof made of an ebonized wood at a pitched angle. Converted to hanging chandeliers or lanterns with four lights mounted in gilt hardware. Each lamp has a decorative gilt chain 30 inches long made from square links with a matte gilt finish. Rare and unusual repurposed from prior use. From an estate in Santa Barbara, CA.
