Vintage Design
Amazing and rare Arts & Crafts Art Nouveau side chair. Design by Hendrik Petrus Berlage. Striking Dutch design from the 1900s. Solid oak with hand-carved decorations in the back. Original faux leather upholstery. The A-construction of the legs is typical for his early designs of chairs. This wonderful Arts & Crafts Art Nouveau side chair by Hendrik Petrus Berlage is in good condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Considered the “Father of Modern Architecture” in the Netherlands and the intermediary between the Traditionalists and the Modernists, Berlage’s theories inspired most Dutch Architectural groups of the 1920s, including the Traditionalists, the Amsterdamse School, De Stijl and the New Objectivists! Our gallery is a family-owned and managed company which has been dealing in 20th Century Decorative Arts since it’s foundation in the late 1920s. We supply customers around the world from our headquarters in Amsterdam and our new showroom in Cruquius near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
