Antique Japanese Satuma Hand-Painted Moriage Vase

This remarkable vase features a central peach color emblem shape with a rich royal blue accentuating the background of the vase. The center has a very elaborate design with blue wildflowers and bordered with gold lacquer and raised moriage detail. Moriage is a style of decoration used by porcelain manufacturers during the late 1800s / early 1900s, laying “beads” of porcelain on the item prior to firing in the kiln. The neck holding the unique tulip-shaped top with scalloped edging is a beautiful yellow color with multi-colored designs. My favorite parts are the handles, which appear to be some sort of fish, or something representing coi, perhaps. They are so unique and really make the piece. The shape of the tall vase is really pretty with its tulip top and bulging middle to the pedestal bottom. There is so much detail to this sunning vase. I have yet to see anything similar to this special piece. Also, what makes this vase very interesting is the Japanese artwork, yet it has a European feel to it, with the scrolls and flowered panels.
It measures a nice height of 19″ and the bulbous middle is 8″ in diameter. Handle to handle is 6″ wide and the top opening is 4″ wide.
