Vintage Design
19th Century burr elm teapoy circa 1840. Very good quality example of a Scandinavian teapoy with a strong influence from the English Regency period. Sarcophagus shaped main body which superbly shows the burrs and grain in the timbers used, further embellished with moulding and a large turned handle to the lid. Hinged lid opens to reveal a fully fitted interior, veneered in flame mahogany, with 2 circular compartments in the centre, flanked either side by lift out lined boxes for tea storage. Top is supported by a hexagonal fluted stem, which links to the quadriform base, which is all finished in the same wood. No glass jars to interior. Minor surface marks to woodwork. Expected wear and losses to caddy lining’s.
