Woodblock print
Paper, pigment, sumi ink
Image: 27 high by 18.25 inches wide (68.5 by 46.4 cm)
Paper size: 28 high by 19 inches wide (71 by 48 cm)
Edition: 10/50
This is a rare early print from Tomio Kinoshita, whose creation of woodblock prints spanned the years between 1955-2007. Kinoshita pulled his prints as they were needed, so there is great variation in color within a particular edition, and often editions were never completed. Since this is number 10/50, it’s hard to say how many more than ten prints might have been produced.
This particular print was featured in a 1995 exhibition at Mie Prefectural Art Museum in Japan and was published in a catalog produced from the show, which will be included with purchase. There is a thin gray paper border around the edges, which Kinoshita applied to a few of his prints, some of which is missing on the lower left edge.
