A very finely made Japanese Nagoya Meiji porcelain tea set hand painted with water birds amidst flowering Iris dating from around 1900. The teaset comprises of a teapot and cover, a twin handled sugar bowl with cover and a handled milk jug. Each is similarly hand decorated with landscape scenes of white crane like birds in flight amidst flowering iris incorporating Mount Fuji to one side. The pieces are embellished with gilding with with finely painted formal decorative borders around the top rims and repeated to the edges of the domed covers. The covers are hand painted with a single bird in flight with flowering Iris and with a double flowerhead handle painted in orange glazes with gilding. The teapot spout has stylized gilded scrolling vine like patterns applied to both sides and all the pieces have red Nagoya marks to the bases.
In good, probably unused, condition.
