– An incredible pair of painted plaster model dogs by Frederick Thomas Daws (1878-1956), England, Mid-Twentieth Century.
– The models have a wonderful lifelike quality in regards to their design and sculptural form, both are in beautifully worn condition for their age, the plaster on both is worn in places and the paint has also faded over time.
– The Dachshund model is signed “Ch. Shrewd Saint” on an oval base, measuring 26cm x 20cm overall.
– The Cocker Spaniel model is signed “Tracey Witch of Ware” on a rectangular base and measures 33cm x 26cm overall. “Tracey Witch of Ware” was a female English Cocker Spaniel who won the title of Best In Show at Cruft’s in both 1948 and 1950. Daws created a statuette and presented it to Tracey Witch’s owner, H.C. Lloyd in 1951 to commemorate her second Cruft’s victory. Copies were made and used by Spratt’s for promotional purposes.
